Biography of
Graham Pepper
Graham graduated in Economics in 1970 and spent the next
10 years in sales within the IT industry. The premature death
of his father in 1980 was a trigger for research into worry
and
the devastating effect it has on an individual’s health.
The 1980s was spent in IT recruitment where he saw the
career-limiting effects of low self-esteem
and self-confidence,
even in highly qualified graduates. Conversely candidates
with a positive outlook and enthusiasm invariably did well.
The 1990s was spent
mainly self-employed, helping
organisations
implementing 'Business Excellence'
(formerly TQM). For
nearly 10 years Graham hosted
bi-monthly 'forum'
meetings, regularly attended by 100+
directors and senior
personnel from organisations across the
northwest.
It was a great great source of learning, as these
meetings attracted some of the best companies in Europe to
share their experiences. A recurring theme of talks was the
crucial importance of attitude to the success of both
individuals and organisations.
After a 3 year period working with a training company in the
field of 'Positive Thinking', Graham founded Inner Direction to publish
That Attitude Book. Distilling over 20 years experience, the book is written
for individuals (primarily aimed at young people before starting out on
their careers), yet the messages are equally valid for organisations. Part One
explores the negative effects of excuses and blame. Part Two emphasises
the importance of purpose, values and vision.
Graham is recognised in the northwest of England as an
entertaining and motivating speaker, having given many talks about the
contents of the book to audiences ranging from teenage schoolchildren to
annual conferences of major British plc's; from one hour to full day
workshops.
Graham's wife Hilary opened
Kip McGrath Education Centre Chorley in September 2005, providing
professional tutoring in English and Maths, for children aged 5 - 16. A
complimentary copy of That Attitude Book
is made available to all parents of students at the centre.
