Brendan Foster CBE

Brendan Foster is managing director of Nova International in Newcastle, a sports marketing agency, specialising in the organisation of mass participation sporting events for television. The most famous is the BUPA sponsored Great North Run (www.greatrun.org), the world's biggest half marathon, with 47,000 entrants participating each year.

In the 1970s Brendan became Britain's most successful distance runner, with a remarkable range of personal bests from 800m to the marathon, including a world record at 3000m. His mid-race surges inspired a generation of athletes and won him a string of medals including:

  • 1970 Commonwealth 1500m Bronze

  • 1974 European 5000m Gold

  • 1976 Olympic 10,000m Bronze

  • 1978 Commonwealth 10,000m Gold

Brendan was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year 1974. He

retired from active athletics in 1980 and since then, he has been a

                                              regular TV commentator.
