Robbie
Coltrane

Robbie Coltrane graduated from Glasgow School of Art. In the
1970s he joined a nightclub circuit as a comedian.
His debut film role was in Death Watch in
1980. Despite a smattering of small film roles, he became a recognisable
figure in alternative comedy and was a frequent participant in The
Comic Strip Presents productions and BBC's TV series The Young
Ones and Blackadder. He won notice for his role as Bob
Hoskin's mechanic friend in the film Mona Lisa in 1986.
In the 1990s, Robbie continued his film career with
performances in comedies such as Nuns on the Run and The Pope
Must Die; and had roles in the James Bond films GoldenEye and
The World Is Not Enough, as Russian gangster Valentin Zukovsky.
In 1993, Robbie began his best-known role as "Fitz", a
troubled criminal psychologist, brought in to assist Manchester Police
profile and catch killers; in the award-winning ITV detective series
Cracker. He won a BAFTA TV award for the role, and a Cable ACE award
when it was rebroadcast in the USA.
Robbie has won a legion of new fans, starring as the
kindly gamekeeper Hagrid in four film adaptations of
J
K Rowling's Harry Potter books.
