Arabella Weir

Arabella Weir began her career with ambitions of being a
'serious' actress, attending a London drama school and working in
regional theatre. After graduating, she was repeatedly offered comic
roles and ended up leaning more and more towards a career in comedy,
writing comic articles for magazines and working on TV with Alexei
Sayle, Harry Enfield and Lenny Henry.
Her big break came when she wrote and performed in BBC2's The Fast
Show,
creating memorable characters such as 'Insecure Woman'. The catch phrase
'Does my bum look big in this?', gave rise to a bestselling novel
of the same
title in May 1999.
Arabella has numerous other TV credits to her name, including
appearances
on Alexei Sayle's Stuff, Harry Enfield and Chums, and
Randall & Hopkirk
(Deceased). She has also presented Metro, She's Gotta
Have It and several
holiday programmes for the BBC. She wrote and co-starred with Richard E
Grant in the BBC's Posh Nosh. Her film appearances include
Honest, Decent
and True and the hit Shooting Fish.
Her second bestselling novel
Onwards and Upwards was published in April 2000. The film rights
to her latest novel
Stupid Cupid, published in April 2002, have been bought by
Renaissance Films, for whom she has written the screenplay.
Arabella is an Ambassador for the charity
One Parent Families. Her own parents split up when she was only
nine, and she went to live with her father, who was a diplomat, in
Bahrain.
