Dr Peter Tregear

Peter Tregear is a Lecturer and Director of Music at Fitzwilliam and Churchill Colleges, Cambridge.

A graduate of the Universities of Melbourne and Cambridge, in 1998 Peter was appointed Lecturer in Music at the University of Queensland, returning to Cambridge in 2000. He has taught subjects across a wide range of music disciplines, from eighteenth and nineteenth-century music history and musicological research methods, to harmony and counterpoint and fugue.

Peter has also worked extensively as both a performer and academic in opera and music theatre and has conducted youth orchestras in Australia and England. He was recently awarded the Sir Charles Mackerras conducting prize for 2003.

Concurrently, he continues to develop research interest in opera studies, twentieth-century musical modernism, Beethoven reception, and Australian music history. In 2000 he co-organised an international conference on the music of Kurt Weill and Ernst Krenek for the Royal Musical Association, and was the only scholar outside mainland Europe to be invited to contribute to centenary celebrations for Krenek in Vienna.

Text Box: "I read 'That Attitude Book' with pleasure. It is written and presented in a very appealing manner, and speaks its message powerfully and clearly. That message, that it is the beliefs that we hold about ourselves that more than anything else determines the course of our lives, is one that deserves the widest dissemination. This book should be required reading for young people on the threshold of adulthood in particular."
