Dr Peter
Tregear

Peter Tregear is a Lecturer and Director of Music
at Fitzwilliam and Churchill Colleges, Cambridge.
A graduate of the Universities of Melbourne and Cambridge, in 1998 Peter
was appointed Lecturer in Music at the University of Queensland,
returning to Cambridge in 2000. He has taught subjects across a wide
range of music disciplines, from eighteenth and nineteenth-century music
history and musicological research methods, to harmony and counterpoint
and fugue.
Peter has also worked extensively as both a performer and academic in
opera and music theatre and has conducted youth orchestras in Australia
and England. He was recently awarded the Sir Charles Mackerras
conducting prize for 2003.
Concurrently, he continues to develop research interest in opera
studies, twentieth-century musical modernism, Beethoven reception, and
Australian music history. In 2000 he co-organised an international
conference on the music of Kurt Weill and Ernst Krenek for the Royal
Musical Association, and was the only scholar outside mainland Europe to
be invited to contribute to centenary celebrations for Krenek in Vienna.
