Stephen B.
Streater

Stephen Streater founded a company with £1m of
venture capital whilst still at university. Having graduated in
Mathematics from Cambridge University, he was too busy to complete his
thesis for a PhD at King's College London, having founded Eidos,
the data compression company.
Eidos, which went on to acquire Tomb Raider and
Lara Croft, became one of the fastest growing companies of the 1990s,
with huge success in the electronic games industry. Stephen left Eidos
in 1998, which had then become a games marketing company.
Following a brief retirement, Stephen soon returned to data compression,
by founding Forbidden Technologies plc, in 1998. The company has
been active since 1999, specialising in video compression technology,
following on from the groundbreaking work started at Eidos in 1990.
The company began with an intense burst of technology
development, leading to the first product launch in 2001, preceded by a
successful AIM-listed flotation of shares in February 2000. Stephen is a
true visionary. "We want to be pushing the frontiers of technology
and mankind's knowledge. We want millions, if not billions, of people to
benefit from our technology" he said in March 2000.
Forbidden is a technology pioneer, creating video and audio products for
the mobile and internet markets. Its software enables video playback
over the Internet using a standard modem connection. In February 2005
Forbidden announced a deal with GMTV to stream the breakfast programme
live to its network of field reporters on location across the world.
Stephen was recently quoted as saying: "The fact that four MPs used
it in the run up to the election demonstrates it must be easy to use."
