Karen Gill

Karen Gill spent ten years in Australia, after her education in
the UK. Here she launched her career in the hospitality industry
and in her early twenties was appointed Director of Marketing for the
Sydney Inter-Continental Hotel. Karen successfully grew the revenues to
$60 million in the four years she was in the role. Rising through the
ranks of Inter-Continental Hotels, at the age of 31 she became
Vice-President of Sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa based back in
the UK.
Having left corporate life to start a family in 1998 Karen decided to
turn her business acumen to building her own business. It was in
Australia in the early 1980's, she met Maxine Benson, who twenty years
later is her business partner. Together, struggling to develop a TV
programme development company they recognised a business opportunity for
a 'Women in Business Community - Online' and the idea behind
everywoman.co.uk, now the UK's leading independent web site for
women business owners, was conceived and developed.
Karen and Maxine's contribution to the women entrepreneurial
market place was recognised by the British Association of
Women Entrepreneurs, who presented them with the 2001
Joyce Award, given to women who have raised the credibility
and visibility of women owned businesses in the UK.
