Debra Veal
MBE

Debra Veal became Managing Director of her first company at the
age of 24 in 1999, with the launch of The Well Hung Art Company.
Today she successfully runs two companies alongside a developing TV
presenting career with the BBC.
Debra achieved fame by rowing solo across the Atlantic Ocean. On 7
October 2001, she and her husband Andrew set off from Tenerife in a 24ft
ocean rowing boat to race 3000 miles to Barbados, one of 36 teams that
took part in the Ward Evans Atlantic Rowing Challenge. However, only two
weeks into the race, Andrew was taken off the boat after developing an
uncontrollable fear of the ocean, leaving Debra to continue the voyage
on her own. On Saturday 26 January 2002 and after 111 days at sea, she
famously rowed into Barbados to complete the crossing.
By sheer determination and keeping herself focussed, she battled 30
feet waves, force 8 squalls, sharks and dodged tankers; but worst of all
she had to cope with the loneliness and solitude.
Since her epic journey, Debra has written a book
Rowing it Alone,
chronicling her amazing experiences. She is now a much sought after
motivational speaker and her enthusiasm and 'can do' attitude have
inspired audiences worldwide.
