Dianne Thompson

Dianne Thompson is the Chief Executive of Camelot Group plc. She began her career as a marketing trainee at the Co-operative Wholesale Society. She was a lecturer at Manchester Polytechnic for seven years during which time she founded and ran her own advertising agency. In a career spanning 25 years, Dianne has worked for a variety of companies, including ICI Paints, Sterling Roncraft and Woolworths, where she was Director of Marketing. She spent three years as the Marketing Director for the Signet Group – part of the new team of people brought in to turn around the troubled Ratner business.

Dianne joined Camelot in February 1997 and was the first female Executive Director to join the Camelot Board. She took over as Chief Executive after the company was finally awarded the second licence in December 2000. Dianne had led the business through a successful judicial review, after the company was excluded from the bidding for the second licence to run The National Lottery.

Dianne was named Veuve Clicquot ‘Business Woman of the Year’ for 2000, and was voted the 2001 ‘Marketer of the Year’ by The Marketing Society. She is a member of the Council of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) as well as being a member of the Marketing Society and the Marketing Group of Great Britain. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, where she took over as President in June 2001.
