Sir Christopher Evans OBE

 

Christopher Evans is the founder and Chairman of Merlin Biosciences. Founded in 1996, Merlin manages or advises over €400 million and is one of Europe’s largest venture capital firms specialising in life sciences.

 

He is regarded as one of Europe’s leading biotechnology entrepreneurs, having set up 20 science-based companies and successfully floated four on the London Stock Exchange. The businesses he has founded have achieved a combined value of €1.6 billion and employ over 2,000 people; including Chiroscience, now merged with Celltech and widely recognised as one of Europe’s flagship bioscience enterprises.

Sir Christopher is recognised for his contribution to small businesses and entrepreneurship throughout the UK and Europe. In addition to being voted Cambridge Businessman of the Year twice, he has been awarded the BVCA Cartier Venturer Award, as well as many other awards. He also supports small businesses through his membership and chair of committees and trusts.

Sir Christopher is a commercially-driven scientist who helps to generate ideas and solutions for problems. He is an honorary Professor of Biotechnology at the Universities of Exeter, Manchester, Liverpool, Bath, Dundee and Imperial College. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Biology and the

Royal Society of Chemistry and has over 100 publications and patents on his scientific work.
